USGS Updating Flood Hazard Maps

The USGS is currently updating flood-zone mapping for three sites in New Hampshire, in cooperation with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Flood maps for Canaan Street Lake and Mirror Lake in the town of Canaan and for Squam Lake in Holderness will be revised. The updated maps will show the 100-year flood zone along the perimeter of the lakes. The flood insurance rate maps for these lakes will be updated from computer modeling and surveying results and printed by FEMA for the public.

A USGS hydrologist is surveying land elevations at Mirror Lake in Canaan, N.H., for use in the flood insurance map update. Click the image to view a larger version.
