6. Identifying features using the Identify tool

When you want information about any feature displayed in the Viewer, you can use the Identify tool Image of 'identify' toolon the toolbar. The Identify tool allows you to see the attributes of your data. Clicking the Identify tool on a location inside the Map Display will present the attributes of the data at that location.

When identifying features with the Identify tool, the attributes are presented in a feature-by-feature, layer-by-layer manner in the Identify Results dialog box. When you click a location in a map with the Identify tool, the Identify Results dialog box displays the data for that location. The default option is to show the information of the topmost layer in the Table of Contents for the location. You can then use the Layers dropdown list at the top of the Identify Results dialog box to choose a specific layer in your map. You will need to scroll down the list to find the SPARROW results. The Identify tool will act on the layer you choose in the Layers dropdown list.

  1. Click the Identify tool Image of 'identify' toolon the Toolbar.
  2. Hold the mouse cursor over the map feature you want to identify and click. The Identify Results dialog box opens.
  3. Select layer you wish to query from the Layers dropdown list in the Identify Results dialog box.
  4. With the Identify Results window still open, additional features can be queried by clicking on a feature.
