Map showing stream gages in New Hampshire coded by recurrence intervals in April 2007 flooding
Recurrence intervals (or return intervals) are used by hydrologists to describe the magnitude and frequency of floods and represent the average interval of time over which floods of similar magnitudes are expected to occur. In the map below, hovering over any colored triangle reveals discharge (in cubic feet per second) at that gage during the flooding and the gage's station name, location, and number. All are operated by the USGS and linked to the real-time data collected continuously.
