Streamflow Data are Available on the World Wide Web

 

Current or real-time information on stream-gage height, discharge, or other weather or water-quality properties are recorded every 15 minutes and transmitted at 1 to 4 hour intervals from an antenna attached to the roof of the gaging station to a satellite orbiting the earth. These data are then re-transmitted to receivers at various locations on earth (fig. 7). Real-time gage-height information is necessary for operating reservoirs, forecasting floods, and other purposes.

In New Hampshire and Vermont, there are about 98 real-time gages (fig. 1). Real-time data for these gages are available to the general public through the World Wide Web at:
